The 2010 Citizen of the World Soiree
Marianne Estess hosted our May 2010 Citizen of the World Soiree, an annual event dedicated to the many volunteers who make the International Visitor Leadership Program possible in northwest Florida. Thanks to Marianne's planning, the party was flawless from start to finish.
Charter and new members alike gathered to watch as Dr. Richard Hough of the University of West Florida was honored as the council's Outstanding Citizen Diplomat of the Year. In 2009 and 2010, Dr. Hough met with dozens of visitors to discuss domestic violence issues and also had several international guests to dinner in his home.
A group of 13 international visitors examining "Global Health Priorities" joined the party, along with their two Cultural Liaison Officers and two Program Officers from Washington, D.C. It was their last full day in the United States, and one of the visitors volunteered to speak to the crowd about his impressions of the country, of Pensacola, and of the International Visitor Leadership Program. It was a fitting ending to their three weeks stay and a wonderful opportunity for all of us to see our own community through another's eyes.
